4 Ways to Cleanse Crystals

4 Ways to Cleanse Crystals

Crystals need cleansing. Whether it is Clear Quartz, Rose Quartz, Amethyst, or Pyrite, crystals absorb, remove, and spread energy. Crystals need a reset and cleansing them is absolutely important especially in a new atmosphere, environment, or space. We need to take care of our crystals in order for them to function and be effective.

So how often should we cleanse our crystals? Whenever you receive new crystals and before you start to them for the first time. You can also cleanse the crystals every full moon. If you have crystals that you have possessed for years and have never cleansed them, that’s okay! We can start now!

Here are 4 of our favorite and most effective ways to cleanse and charge your crystals:

1. Sage your crystals with Palo Santo or sage smudge:

Sage is a sacred plant and has been established as a Native American cultural practice. They were mostly burning sage or smudging, as it is called, to get rid or expel unwelcome and persisting energies. Smudging helps establish a positive environment for your space. Smudging also works for cleansing crystals. Please be careful when lighting the sage smudge. After lighting, gently wave the sage smudge near and around the crystals until you feel they are thoroughly cleansed. You can repeat once every 1 to 2 months. (Evergreen Select provides a sage smudge with every order in order help you cleanse your crystals)

2. Cleanse your crystals with water or salt water:

Salt has been used throughout history to absorb unwanted energy and banish negativity. If you’re near the ocean, consider collecting a bowl of fresh salt water. Otherwise, mix a tablespoon of sea, rock, or table salt into a bowl of water. Make sure that your stone is completely submerged, and allow it to soak for a few hours to a few days’ time. Rinse and pat dry when complete.

3. Use other crystals or stones to cleanse and charge your crystals:

A safe and effective way to cleanse your crystals is to use other crystals. This practice can work on any crystal. The best crystals to use to cleanse others include selenite, quartz, and amethyst. Generally, the large stones work best for cleansing the smaller sized crystals. One way to do this is to place your smaller crystals that need to be cleansed on the crystal that will be doing the cleansing such as the selenite. Let the smaller crystals stay on the selenite for 24 hours.

4. Charge and cleanse your crystals when there is a full moon:

Crystals like to be earthed or grounded under the powerful moon rays. You can place them on a natural surface like a lawn or the ground. If you do not have a lawn to place them outside, that’s okay; place them near your window or near your balcony. Leave the crystals overnight for about 10 to 12 hours and bring them back inside after that (if they are left outdoors). The full moon will cleanse and charge the natural properties of the crystals. Please note that on the full moon night even if there is overcast or it is cloudy, the moon rays will still be powerful enough to cleanse and charge the crystals.

Crystals are beautiful and extremely pretty to look at but if you want to experience the full potential and power of crystals then they need to be cleansed from time to time. Crystals absorb the energies around them – the people that handle them, the environments they travel through, and more. Sometimes the crystals pick up energies that oppose its traits, which can lead to the crystal being blocked from working, as it should. Cleanse your crystals whenever you can so they can be optimal and vibrate at their highest frequencies!

***Please note that some crystals, such as Malachite, do not react well with water and create toxins. Here are a list of the crystals and stones that should not react with water:

malachite, amber, turquoise, red coral, fire opal, moonstone, calcite, kyanite, kunzite, angelite, azurite, selenite. A good rule of thumb to remember is that many crystals and stones that end in “ite” are not water friendly.
